Du coup j'ai pensé tout de suite à une amie, Ilaria Chiaratti aka Ida interior lifestyle. Bloggeuse et photographe d'intérieurs (elle avait fait le reportage de notre appartement parisien il y a deux ans), Ilaria est surtout une crochet-addicted! Qui mieux qu'une véritable accro au crochet pouvait nous expliquer ce qui fait l'attrait de cette technique, que nombreux d'entre nous associent encore à nos grand-mères, mais qui fait son retour en grande pompe parmi les tendances déco du moment?
Crochet in interiors' decoration. The monthly meeting with Home Challenge is back. I may as well tell you that I know almost nothing about it. I thought at once of a friend, Ilaria Chiaratti aka Ida interior lifestyle. Blogger and interiors' photographer (she took the pictures of our Parisian apartment two years ago), Ilaria is above all a crochet addicted! Who better than a real hooked on crochet could explain us what attracts about this technique, that several of us still match with our grandmothers, but that makes its coming back among the trends in interior decoration right now?
Depuis combien de temps tu fais du crochet et qu'est-ce qui t'a poussé à en faire?
J'ai commencé il y a 15 ans, lors d'un été italien très chaud. Pendant une semaine, j'ai passé tous les après-midis avec une grand-tante que j'avais toujours admiré pour son adresse avec la machine à tricoter. Je lui ai demandé de m'apprendre quelque chose de simple et rapide et elle m'a appris les bases du crochet.
How long have you been doing crochet and why did you start?
I began 15 years ago, during a very hot Italian summer. During a week, I spent every afternoon with a great-aunt that I had always admired for her ability with the knitting machine. I asked her to teach me something simple and quick and she taught me the bases of the crochet.
Cette passion s'est transformée en business. Qu'est-ce qui a déterminé ce changement?
Tout a commencé avec le magasin Etsy. Une véritable nécessité: je ne savais plus où entasser mes créations dans notre appartement de l'époque qui était plutôt petit. La demande augmentait et du coup j'ai pensé à Etsy. Par contre le eshop de laine, IDA Yarn shop, a été une "passation" de la part de Yvonne {de Yvestown.com}: c'était son eshop, mais elle avait désormais trop de travail par ailleurs pour continuer à s'en occuper et elle a pensé à moi pour reprendre le business. Quand elle me l'a proposé j'ai immédiatement dit "oui", j'ai toujours rêvé d'avoir un véritable petit magasin à moi!

Everything began with the Etsy store. A real need: I didn't know where to pile up my creations in our apartment which was rather small at the time. The demand increased and I thought of Etsy right away. On the other hand, the IDA Yarn shop was a "handover" on behalf of Yvonne {of Yvestown.com}: it was her shop, but she had too much work besides to keep on taking care of it and she thought of me to take the business back. When she proposed it to me I immediately said "yes", I've always dreamed of a real small store of mine!
Qu'est-ce qui te plaît dans cette technique?
C'est rapide et simple. Ça détend énormément. Le soir, après le dîner, j'ai hâte de me poser pour travailler au crochet.

It is fast and simple. It relaxes enormously. In the evening, after the dinner, I can't wait to sit on my couch to work on crochet.
Le crochet est de nouveau de tendance dans la décoration d'intérieur, mais pas seulement dans les chambres d'enfants. À ton avis, quelle en est la raison?
La redécouverte du "fait à la main" sans aucun doute, l'envie d'avoir un objet unique et absolument personnel. De plus je trouve qu'un élément original fait la différence dans une pièce, il attire immédiatement l'attention. Et puis rien de tel que de s'enrouler dans une couverture faite à la main!

Crochet is back as a trend in interiors' design and not just in the kids' rooms. What is the reason according to you?
No doubt the rediscovery of the "hand-made", the wish to have a unique and absolutely personal object. Furthermore I think that an original element can make the difference in a room, it immediately draws the attention. And then there is nothing like winding in a hand-made blanket!
Un conseil pour quelqu'un qui voudrait se lancer?
Commencer avec un projet simple et rapide comme une écharpe par exemple. Une fois maitrisés les points de base, c'est plus facile de passer à des projets plus compliqués. Mais surtout attention: le crochet crée dépendance!
Any advice for someone who would like to get into it?
Any advice for someone who would like to get into it?
Begin with a simple and fast project such a scarf for instance. Once you master the basic points, it is easier to start more complicated projects. But be careful: crochet gives addiction!
